In the continued learning about simple machines, the second-grade classes tackled the design challenge to design a wood car that could travel the furthest in a downhill race. This was an extension of out recycled car race we completed earlier in the semester. This time the students traced the shapes to be cut out in the wood, designed where the wheels and axles were placed, and of course gave them some awesome paint jobs. The students had a lot of ownership in their final product and ended up making a wooden toy that is reflective of something from a different generation.
